Manchester Leisure Services provide a range of sporting and physical activity opportunities to the children of Manchester.  Activities are available throughout all of Manchester, on an ongoing basis and during school holidays.  Most activities are free, but some ask a very small fee to be paid. Activities include: Athletics, Boxing, Karate, Football, Basketball, Cycling, Rugby, Netball, Tennis, Swimming, Squash, Badminton, Cricket, Hockey, Gymnastics, Street Dance, Aerojam, Circuit training.

Community Sports Development Officers work closely with their local community to ensure opportunities are available to participate in sport and physical activity.

Manchester City Football Club’s community programme City in the Community (CITC) was founded in 1986, aiming to forge closer links between the football club and the local community. CITC Logo

With a team of twenty full time and thirty part time staff, CITC runs projects based around four key areas: Sport, Health, Young People and Enterprise. Every year, the CITC team engages with over 200,000 people of all ages and across all communities over Manchester, Tameside and Stockport.

Parktastic
Parktastic! -
Free two hour outdoor play sessions
Parktastic provides two hour outdoor play sessions at evenings, weekend and during school holidays.

The play sessions are free, open-access, adventurous play opportunities for all children and young people aged 6 to 13 years. They take place in local parks and green spaces.

Parktastic Logo
Play activities such as den building, tree climbing and mini sports encourage children and young people to play outdoors, supported by qualified playworkers.

Sporting Edge Community Sports Centre
Sporting Edge Community Sports Centre
Sporting Edge Community Sports Centre is a new  centre in Higher Openshaw. It was developed through a partnership between Partnership between New Deals for Communities, Manchester City Council (Leisure Services), 4CT and Manchester City FC.

The new sports facility opened to the public in June 2007 and now has a wide range of activities available to children, young people and adults.
Activities at the centre include the MCFC Kickz Football and Music Project aimed at 13-19 year olds. Kickz has been so successful that a junior project has started at the centre for 10-12 year olds in partnership with Nacro Sports. Manchester Youth Service run youth sessions four nights a week at the centre for 13-19 year olds and two nights per week for 8-12 year olds activities include sport, arts and crafts, IT, music and day trips.

A range of local sports clubs run their regular weekly training sessions from Sporting Edge including Clayton Villa JFC who run teams for children aged 5 to 15 years of age. Other classes include Karate, Kickboxing for 5+ years and Body Combat classes aimed at women 16+. Sporting Edge also regularly host holiday play schemes and sports camps at the centre.

Wright Robinson College in East Manchester has become home to a top quality sports village with facilities available not only to pupils, but to the local community as well. The sports village will be used by Wright Robinson pupils during the day and members of the public during the evenings and weekends.
